Simply because it complicates logic. Calendar is not our primary feature and we have to watch on priorities.

why not have members input events on the calendar then admins and owners approve their inputs…like if you using the calendar to slot in personal days and work leave?

Simply to avoid a mess. Only admins/managers can manage events like vacations/sick days etc. with a prior approval.
